Baptisms is one of life’s most joyful milestones, a moment of believing, behaving and belonging.
At St Wilfrid’s, we are delighted to welcome you to share in this celebration. Welcoming children and adults alike as they begin believing in God, journeying in their faith and belonging to the wider church family.
Whether you’re exploring baptism for a new arrival, an older child, for you yourself we are here to guide you and support you every step of the way.
To be baptised is to be named and claimed as part of something bigger, a family of faith stretching across time and place
Who can be Baptised
We welcome all people of all ages to baptism, from babies and children to teenagers and adults. Baptism marks the beginning of believing in God’s promise and understandings made by the candidates, parents and godparents, implying that they take seriously the promises being made
Godparents
When arranging a baptism, you will be asked to choose godparents, trusted people who will support and encourage them in their faith as they grow. Godparents are required themselves to be baptised and ideally church members. Adults being baptised often choose a sponsor instead, someone to encourage their faith journey.
Staying in Touch
We keep in touch with children, teenagers and adults who we baptised and you are invited to come to the different activities in church
