For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)

Many people today are puzzled about Jesus.

  • Why is there so much interest in a person born 2,000 years ago?
  • Why are so many people excited about Jesus?
  • Why do we need him? Why did he come?
  • Why did he die?
  • Why should anyone bother to find out?

The central theme of the Bible is God’s love for you and for all people. This love was revealed when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world as a human being, lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead.

Jesus is the only person who has ever lived who never put a foot wrong. Unlike us, he never ‘sinned’. Sin is an old-fashioned word, but it is what the Bible calls our failings. And because of sin, we need to be forgiven.

Because Jesus died, your sins can be forgiven, and because He conquered death you can have eternal life. You can know for sure what will become of you after you die.

You have probably heard the story of God’s love referred to as the Gospel. The word Gospel simply means ‘Good News’. The Gospel is the Good News that, because of what Christ has done, we can be forgiven and can live forever.

But this gift of forgiveness and eternal life cannot be yours unless you willingly accept it. God requires an individual response from you.

When you choose to follow Jesus, you become God’s son or daughter and have the privilege of talking to Him at any time about anything – that’s what prayer is about. The Christian life is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And best of all, it’s a relationship that will last for all eternity.

Becoming a Christian is simple – just say the prayer below and mean it! But being a Christian is a life-long process of letting Jesus slowly change you. He might not take away all your troubles, but he will give you the strength to face them. And you will always know how much God loves you.

Lord Jesus Christ,
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life
(take a few moments to ask His forgiveness for
anything in particular that is on your conscience).
Please forgive me.
I now turn from everything that I know is wrong.
Thank you that you died on the cross for me
so that I could be forgiven and set free.
Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit.
I now receive that gift.
Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.
Thank you Lord Jesus.
Amen.
